CSET Program Goals

To provide students with:

1. Fundamental professional skills including communications, math, and writing - accomplished through 21 credits of liberal arts, inlcuding: Business Elective (MGT 101, MGT 211, MKT 201, BSL 101, or BSL 103), Psychology of Interpersonal Relations (PSY 118), English Composition & Literature (ENG 101), English Composition & Literature (ENG 102), Technical & Workplace Writing (ENG 205), College Math I: Precalculus (MAT 123), and Speech Communication Skills (SPH 101)

2. An understanding of basic business functions enabled by IT including the implementation and use of basic end user software in an office environment. - accomplished by including Computer Applications in Telecommunications (CIS 115), Computer Applications in Microcomputers (CIS 111), or CAD for Technicians (ELT 105)

3. An understanding of the fundamentals of computer electronics - accomplished by including Computer Electronics (ELT 110).

4. Ability to perform support and maintenance of computer hardware - accomplished by including Intro to Computer Hardware & Support (CSC 233).

5. Ability to design, implement and maintain local and wide area computer networks - accomplished by Intro to Networking Technologies (CSC 234).

6. Ability to perform implementation and support of multiple industry standard computer operating systems in enterprise networking environments - accomplished through Windows Client Operating Systems (CSC 141), Windows Server Operating Systems (CSC 241), Enterprise Networking (CST 238), and Unix Operating Systems (CST 245).

7. An understanding of basic programming structures and algorithms - accomplished through Intro to Programming with C++ (CIS 121).

8. Ability to design and implement routing basics utilizing the TCP/IP protocol and implement common TCP/IP services and utilities - accomplished through Networking with TCP/IP (CST 231) and Intro to Routing (CST 240).

9. An understanding of the management of IT components and management of projects involving their implementation - accomplished through Network Management (CST 235).

10. Experience in an IT business environment through cooperative education and seminars - accomplished through Coop Work Experience & Seminar (CST 299).
