What kinds of things does an Occupational Therapy Assistant do?

  • Teach a physically challenged person to bathe independently

  • Create a learning environment for a developmentally delayed child

  • Assist a person with a major mental illness to develop a daily routine

  • Adapt the home environment for a person dealing with the effects of a stroke

  • Provide activities to build self esteem in an individual who is recovering from substance abuse

  • Analyze and adapt job tasks for an injured worker

  • Fabricate adaptive equipment and devices to increase independent functioning in individuals with disabilities

  • Educate clients and family members about their disease and/or disability

  • Instruct individuals about maintaining wellness

  • Construct an environment that facilitates play for a blind child
