How do I apply to QCC?

To apply to one of our certificates or degree programs, you first need to complete a QCC application.

bulletDo I need to apply if I’m only taking one course, or a couple of courses?

If you are only interested in taking one or two courses, you do not need to formally apply. However, if you are applying for financial aid, you will need to be accepted to a certificate or degree program in order to access funds. Also, if you are transferring to QCC from another college and you would like credits transferred, you will need to be accepted into a program at QCC.

bulletIs there a deadline?

QCC accepts applications on a rolling basis, meaning that we will process your application for the next available semester at the time of your application. Generally, the deadline for acceptance to an upcoming semester is two weeks before the first day of classes.

bullet

Do you need my high school transcripts?

Yes, in order to accept students to our certificate or degree programs, we need final, official transcripts provided to QCC.

bulletWhat is the difference between “official” and “unofficial" transcripts and which one do I need?

Official transcripts are those that are typically sent directly to QCC by the high school or college and they bear the Registrar’s official seal on the document. Final transcripts also include a student’s graduation date. Unofficial transcripts are those that will say “unofficial” or “for student use only” on them, or they may be a photo-copy of the grade report.

bulletCan I be accepted with a G.E.D.?

QCC is happy to accept students who have obtained a G.E.D.

bulletWhat happens if I do not have either a high school diploma or G.E.D.?

You may be eligible to be admitted to a degree or certificate program and be possibly eligible for financial aid under a U.S. Department of Education Regulation called “Ability to Benefit.”  This allows students who score high enough on certain approved tests to have the high school transcript requirement waived.  Contact the Admissions Office for details on how to apply under this process.

bullet

Why do you need my high school transcripts if I already have a college degree?

Some academic programs, such as Nurse Education, require proof of high school graduation even if there is also documentation of college level work or a college degree.

bullet

Do I need to take the SAT or an entrance exam?

QCC does not require the results of standardized test exams (like the SAT) for acceptance. We do require students who are accepted into any of our certificate or degree programs (who have not taken college level English and math courses) to take our Computerized Placement Test.

bulletWhy do I need to take a placement/assessment test?

Your results on this test will tell you which English and math courses to begin with.

bullet

Do I have to take an assessment test if I’m only taking one course?

You will still need to take the placement test even if only registering for one course if there is an English or math pre-requisite to the course, or if you are unsure about what level of English or math course to begin with.

bulletHow will I find out if I have been accepted?

When the Admissions office has received your completed application, final high school transcripts or GED diploma, and any college transcripts that you choose to provide, you will be evaluated for your program major of interest. If you meet the admissions requirements of that program, you will be sent a letter of acceptance.

bullet

Are there requirement criteria to get into degree programs?

Yes, many of our programs have specific admissions requirements. You should refer to the academic qualifications chart or QCC catalog for program descriptions.

bulletWhen can I start to take classes?

If you are lacking the specific program requirements, you will still be accepted to the General Studies program, and referred to the Academic Advising office where you will be helped to select courses that prepare you for acceptance into a particular program.

bulletWhat happens if I don’t get into my first choice program?

The response above describes what happens if you are not accepted to your first choice program. You will still be accepted to the General Studies program and have the opportunity to re-apply to your first choice program once you meet the admissions requirements.

bullet

What is the waiting list and how does it work?

The waiting list is an administrative record of the number of students who have met the admissions requirements for a program that has size limits. When the program has filled the total number of available spaces for a given semester/year, any additional students who have been accepted will be offered placement on a waiting list. Placement on the waiting list means that if someone already accepted should choose to withdraw before starting in a program, that space will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

bulletWhat happens when/after I get accepted?

You will receive a letter notifying you of your acceptance as well as information about the next steps in preparing to register for classes.

bulletWhat do I do if I want to change my academic program (major)?

Only students who are currently accepted into a certificate or degree program may change programs. Students who are currently “Undeclared” must first apply and be accepted to the college, before they can change.

To change your academic program, you will need to fill out and bring a completed “Study Option Request Change Form” which you can get in the Admissions Office. Once received, your admissions folder will be pulled and evaluated to see if you meet the admissions requirements for the program that you wish to change to.

If you do meet the new program admissions requirements, you will be accepted to the next available semester, and you will receive a letter indicating your acceptance to the new program.

If you do not meet the new program requirements, you will receive a letter telling you about your evaluation and you will remain in your current program.
