Epiphany

"A showing forth" or sudden revelation of the truth about a character or situation. The awareness comes through a specific event that brings a character (and the reader) to a greater understanding of self or a situation.  Stories remind us that we are often not ready for life's epiphanies; they come to us with a raw power that transforms an ordinary moment.

Examples:

Désirée experiences an epiphany in a difficult private moment when she recognizes a difference in her baby's appearance.

Mrs. Hale discovers the objects that identify the motive for the murder.
