Foil

A foil is usually a minor character who highlights the major character. The foil may present contrasting characteristics or behavior.

Examples:

• The men ~ "A Jury of Her Peers"

• Aminadab ~ "The Birthmark"

• Parker Adderson and the General

• Marjorie ~ " Bernice Bobs Her Hair" 

• Flem (Sarty's brother) ~ "Barn Burning"
