A Brief Introduction to Front Page | Guides to Web Authoring

Publishing with FrontPage

Alternatives to the software's "publish feature."

Steps for accessing your web site and publishing

HUM 142 students: First be sure your site is FrontPage enabled. At Tripod, set this under "My Account" preferences when you log in. For more assistance in using FrontPage with your Tripod site see http://www.tripod.lycos.com/guides/frontpage.html

1. Under FrontPage's File menu, select Publish Web.

2. In the Publish Destination dialog box type the location of your site

For Tripod users write http://members.tripod.com/ and add your Tripod user name after the last forward slash. A dialog box will come up asking you to enter your network user name (your Tripod member name) and password. Do this and click OK. You will then see your site--no files yet if you haven't uploaded anything.
Note:  If you have previously chosen a publishing destination for this web site, the Publish Destination dialog box will not appear. Proceed to step 3.

3. In the Publish Web dialog box you will see the files on your home computer.
Specify the pages you want to publish.

4. Click Publish (lower right of publish web dialog box). You should see a graphic indicating files are being transferred, then a confirmation of successful publishing.

5. Be sure to check all the files published to the Internet at your Tripod address.

Suggestion for future updates to your site

You may wish to work only on the server. Instead of using the publish web command, just use the Open Web under the file menu and write your Tripod URL (your web address) as http://members.tripod.com/   followed by your Tripod member name after the last forward slash (no space). You'll then be prompted for your Network name and password (same as Tripod member name and password). When you work on the server, just save the file you have changed or created. Once the file is saved, the update or new page is available on the Internet.

Remember you may copy and paste information from a Word file to a FrontPage document and edit the page for web publishing.
