Uploading Files for Web Publishing

Users may choose from several methods for uploading web files. Web authoring tools such as Microsoft's Front Page, and Netscape's Composer allow you to upload from the program. Other methods are outlined here.

To upload your document to a server you must first register an account and know the server URL, your username and your password. Anyone with an active email address may register for the free web publishing service at Tripod. To avoid unwanted email and advertising, do not select any additional services.

Choose one of these methods to upload files to your folder on the server:

A. At the Tripod site, use the Tripod services to upload through the browser.

  1. Log in to the Tripod site: access http://www.tripod.com and click log in; in the member name and password boxes type the correct username and password; then click "log in" or press enter key.
  2. You will see choices for creating and managing files; choose File Manager under "Building Tools" (as well as under "Build and Edit" pop up menu.)
  3. To upload a file from your local machine, click the down triangle next to "Upload via" next to the "New Directory" button; select single files. This will open a new window.
  4. In the Tripod dialog window, click the "Browse" button next to the "File name" box. This command will open a window on your local machine where you can choose the file you wish to publish to the Tripod server.
  5. On your local machine, find and double click the folder you created for your web files; select the file to upload and then click the "Open" button at the bottom right of the window.
  6. The next step is to click the "Upload" button in the bottom of the Tripod window. Follow directions to upload again or return to File manager.
  7. The final step is to check your newly published files by accessing them via the web site. For example, you might access http://hum142.tripod.com/index.html substituting the correct account name, the folder (if needed), and the file you have uploaded.

B. Use FrontPage's Publish feature  (explained in Introduction to FrontPage.)
