Connecting to the Internet from home

  • TCP/IP - Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol: languages that allow computers on the Internet to communicate. This software is usually bundled with the computer's operating system.

  • ISP - Internet Service Provider -The company you pay to establish an Internet connection from home--such as a cable company, AOL, AT&T, MSN.

  • A cable modem or telephone line to transfer signals from computer to network. 

  • 64 MB RAM  (higher for a broadband or cable connection)

  • Browser: the software for viewing web pages. The Internet Explorer browser is included with the Windows operating system. Email may be accessed with separate software or through the browser.
