The World Wide Web

The Web (or W3) is synonymous with the Internet but is technically a subpart of the Internet. It was developed (1989-91)more than 20 years after the Internet (1960s) to simplify the exchange of files over the global network.
The Web integrates all Internet applications through a single interface, the software package known as the web browser. Popular browsers include Internet Explorer, AOL, Netscape.
Some metaphors for the Web include digital library, information superhighway, and virtual park.
