| Ranger-EMTs and volunteer rescuers are located around Mt. Monadnock to be ready for the three to five injuries that occur weekly. In July, 2003, one woman slipped while descending, breaking her ankle. With assistance from an EMT-trained park ranger, who splinted the ankle, and bystanders who acted as crutches, the woman, joking most of the way, was able to descend about half a mile, where she was met by a crew bearing a litter. Some of the crew were SCA (Student Conservation Association) members who were performing trail maintenance at the time. The photos in this gallery show some of the crew as they carried the litter down the Monte Rosa Trail to a waiting truck. |
