Electromechanical Technology

Associate in Science Degree

Would you like to take part in producing the next generation of microchips and other high-tech components that will drive the information age into the 21st century? The Electromechanical Technology Program at QCC can take you there!

Electromechanical equipment technicians install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of computer-driven manufacturing or automatic control equipment. They must understand basic electronics and computer operating systems in order to work with the variety of equipment, systems, and manufacturing processes. Technicians in this field may work in any manufacturing environment that uses computer-driven or electronically controlled equipment, particularly the semiconductor manufacturing industry. The employment outlook for electrical and electronic equipment mechanics and for skilled semi-conductor manufacturing technicians suggests strong employment opportunities in this field.

The curriculum provides you with the classroom and hands-on experiences needed to develop and execute troubleshooting strategies and preventative maintenance on electromechanical systems, vacuum systems, and power RF systems. You will also gain competency in developing and troubleshooting programs for programmable logic controllers. This curriculum places particular emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing processes and receives technical assistance and support from Intel Corporation.

Upon completion of this program, you will be prepared to obtain employment as an electromechanical equipment technician within the manufacturing industry, particularly the semiconductor industry, or within other environments utilizing electronically controlled environmental or security systems. You will also be prepared to continue your studies at the bachelor’s degree level in such disciplines as engineering or business administration. You should speak with an academic advisor to be sure that the courses you select would satisfy the requirements of the receiving institution.

In order to be considered for the Electromechanical Technology program, you must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). In addition, you must have completed three years of high school English or the QCC equivalent, and one year of high school algebra or the QCC equivalent. All courses must be completed with grades of "C" or higher.
