One Book Project Faculty  Courses Academic Honesty/ MLA Style Guide Support Services Sources for Writing Writing in the Disciplines Communication Skills Center		The English Department offers composition and literature courses to fulfill program and transfer requirements as well as developmental courses to prepare students for success in college. We further the college's mission by helping students acquire the communication skills necessary for academics and careers.  The Department emphasizes the following learning goals: To write effectively for audiences in both academic and workplace settings To apply critical judgment in reading fiction and non-fiction To develop creativity in written expression To recognize local, national, and international perspectives in communication To employ current technology for effective research and purposeful communication To apply ethical standards in problem solving   Updated 15 May 2013
