The Reference Desk
In Person
The Reference Librarians are available to assist you anytime the
Alden Library is open. Visit the Alden Library Reference Desk on the 3rd floor of the Harrington Learning Center.

The Circulation Desk
The Alden Library Circulation Desk is located on the second floor of
the Harrington Learning Center. Students, faculty and staff
may apply for or renew their library barcode here. Library
barcodes are needed to borrow books, request interlibrary loans, and
access the online databases.
Course Reserves
Faculty may place items on reserve at the Circulation Desk for their
students to use, usually for 2 hours at a time in the library. Ask
for the item you need by course and instructor.
Interlibrary Loans
Current students, faculty and staff are eligible to request
interlibrary loans. The George I. Alden Library has agreements with other libraries in the region,
state and country to borrow materials the Alden Library does not own.
The Interlibrary Loans page explains the different ways to discover items in other libraries
and request them for your use. You may also consult a Reference
Librarian for assistance in finding and obtaining materials. You may

The Building
The Alden Library is located on the third floor of the Harrington
Learning Center. The third floor is generally a quiet study floor.
Food and drink are not allowed, except for covered water containers.
Please silence your cell phones when entering the third floor.
Cell phone conversations should be taken down stairs.
Computers
The Alden Library has computers available for research on the third
floor. An email express station is available across from the
Information Desk on the second floor. Word processing is available
in the Harrington Computer Center located in 379 of the Administration
Building. The Circulation Desk on the second floor of the
Harrington Learning Center has laptops for short term loan within the
Alden Library for QCC students. Borrowing the laptops requires
registration the first time each semester. Wireless is available
throughout the Harrington Learning Center. Ask at any of the
library desks for the password.
Studying in the Library
The third floor of the Harrington Learning Center is generally a
quiet study floor. Conversations are best taken down the first
floor of the building. Students wishing to study in a group may
also request a group study room at the Information Desk. Group
study rooms are available for 2 or more students and a current QCC ID
must be left at the Information Desk while a student has a group study
room key.
Photocopying and printing
Photocopying and printing are available on the second and third
floors of the HLC for ten cents per page. Network print cards are
needed for all photocopiers and printers except for the photocopier on
the second floor of the HLC which takes cash. The network print
card preloaded with $5.00 credit is given to each student with their ID.
Network print cards may also be purchased or reloaded with additional
credit on the second floor of the HLC, above the photocopier.

National Gallery of Writing
The
Quinsigamond Community College Gallery,
one of over 800
in the national gallery sponsored by the National
Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), is now open.
You
can submit work until the gallery closes in June
2010. For more information and

New Collection of E-books available to the QCC Community
The Alden Library has added a new set of
20,000 e-book titles to complement our print collection.
These books are fully searchable and read online, so you
can access them any time via the internet. QCC
students, faculty and staff will need to type in their
library barcode to gain access from off campus.

The Alden Library's website has a new look. But
all the resources you depend on are still here.
Take a look around to familiarize yourself with what the
