1. What library materials may I take out of the library?
Circulating books only
2. What other kinds of materials are available?
Reference books and periodicals (popular magazines, professional journals, newspapers) may be used only in the Alden Library. Two photocopiers are available and copies can be made for 10 cents a page.
Videos must checked out from the Circulation Desk. They must be viewed in the AV viewing area of the Individualized Learning Center (ILC) or in a group study room. They must be returned to the Circulation Desk.
Reserve materials (see #6)
3. How do I know what books or videos are in the library?
Use the online catalog available on any computer in The Harrington Learning Center. Open Internet Explorer and go to: http://www.qcc.mass.edu/library. Click on the Online Catalog link. From home, open your web browser and go to http://www.qcc.mass.edu/library and click on the Online Catalog link. You may also access the online catalog after logging in using the Off-Campus (Remote) Access link.
If you need help finding appropriate resources for your research, you can always find a friendly and helpful librarian at the 3rd floor Reference Desk.
Students of Quinsigamond Community College must present a current valid QCC identification card in order to check out circulating books. (Other acceptable identification includes paid QCC tuition bill for current semester plus a driver’s license. Students presenting these non-standard forms of identification will be limited to checking out two items until a student identification card can be obtained)
Never let anyone else use your card to check out materials. If materials are lost or damaged, you will be responsible for replacement charges.
5. How long may I keep books out?
21 days with one renewal You may renew books by bringing them to the Circulation Desk or by phone (508-854-4581) or e-mail (paulam@qcc.mass.edu). Renewals may not be automatic if another person is waiting for the book.
6. Is there a limit to the number of books I can check out?
Students may have a total of 7 books checked out at one time with a limit of 4 on one subject.
No books may be checked out if your account is overdue or delinquent.
7. What are “reserves” and what are the rules?
All materials placed on reserve by faculty for a specific class must be used in the library. You may use the coin-operated photocopier in the library to make copies if you choose, subject to United States Copyright Law.
You must leave a picture ID at the Circulation Desk for reserve materials. One reserve item at a time may be checked out for use in the library only.
Occasionally a reserve item is designated as “overnight reserve” and can be checked out for that very limited time. Students keeping overnight reserves beyond the due date will be reported to the faculty member who put the item on reserve. The student’s account will be considered to be delinquent.
8. What if the books I am using at home become overdue?
There are no fines for overdue books but no additional books will be checked out to borrowers with overdue books.
QCC students will not be allowed to register and will not receive transcripts until all overdue or lost library books are returned or paid for.
Any borrower with a book which is more than three weeks overdue will be considered delinquent. Delinquent borrowers will receive a bill for the cost of the book plus a $10 processing fee which will only be cleared by returning the book or paying for it. Out-of-print books will be billed at the rate of $30 for hardback and $10 for paperback.
Books which are returned but are damaged beyond being useable will be handled as lost.
Billed books in good condition may be returned for credit for replacement fees (not processing fees) without time limitation.
Checks for lost or damaged books belonging to other libraries must be made out directly to the originating library. The QCC Circulation Manager will mail the check directly to the other library.
