APPLICANTS: FRESHMAN CLASSES NOW START IN SEPTEMBER !!!

Respiratory Care prepares students for careers as specialized allied health practitioners.  The program is fully accredited by the  Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs.

Respiratory Care Practitioners are providers of direct patient care to clients (ranging in age from newborn infants to senior citizens) with cardiopulmonary disorders. Graduates of the program may become  members of the health care team in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, extended care facilities, home care agencies, cardiopulmonary diagnostic laboratories, and sleep laboratories.  Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the credentialing examinations offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.  Upon successful completion of the credentialing process, graduates become Registered Respiratory Care Practitioners.

Courses in both Respiratory Care and Liberal Arts are required in the program.  Respiratory Care program courses are both classroom and laboratory based; patient care experience is provided through clinical rotations at affiliating health care facilities.  All clinical experiences take place under the supervision of program faculty/credentialed Respiratory Care Practitioners.

Students accepted into the Respiratory Care program must: (1) achieve a grade of "C" or better in all Respiratory Care courses and passing grades in all other courses; and (2) satisfy all course and program requirements (including regulations on attendance and conduct) in order to remain in the program.

A CORI report is required of all students accepted into the program.

As a Respiratory Care student, applicants should anticipate additional expenses for clinical uniforms, professional liability insurance, and course materials.

All students accepted to the Respiratory Care program must obtain basic CPR certification prior to enrolling in RCP 121 Clinical I.

 Admissions Process
To be eligible for consideration for admission into the program, an applicant must have taken two years of high school algebra, one year of High-school biology and chemistry, and three years of high-school English, all passes with minimum grades of ”C+” or equivalent.  Courses in mathematics and sciences must have been taken within the past five years of application.  Students who have completed mathematics and English courses at the high-school level must take the College's mathematics and English assessment tests to demonstrate competency at the appropriate levels. Once students have completed the minimum entrance requirements, they are placed on a qualified list and are guaranteed acceptance on a space-available basis.

If an applicant holds the CRTT (CRT) credential and /or has successfully completed courses at another professional school offering the Respiratory Care degree, he/she may apply for advanced standing/credits toward a degree at QCC.
