MCCC Meeting minutes

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

  • Elections are coming up for our Chapter.  Nominations will take place at the March meeting, and elections will be held at the April meeting.  All elected positions are open.  They are as follows:

            President

            Vice President

            Secretary

            Treasurer

            Board of Directors rep

            Alternate Board of Directors rep

Please consider running for office.  This may prove to be a most interesting time at QCC with so many Interims and a new President!

  • Work to Rule: The voted motion to stay on Work to Rule until we receive our money is still in place.  The first payment has come in.  That contract is done, and there is reasonable certainty that all of the money will flow.

We need to be concerned about the next contract.

Discussion about our Work to Rule vote of last fall.  Does the membership want to reconsider that vote?

            Discussion ensued.

Voice affirmation not to take another vote to reconsider the original vote.

Decision to remain on Work to Rule until all the moneys are in our pockets and the issues with implementing the pay-out by our HR dept. are resolved.

How can we implement Work to Rule for the second semester?

            Continue to adjourn Division meetings

Continue to adjourn the Academic Affairs Committee meetings

            Continue to boycott non-required activities.

A committee will be set up to work with the HR office to ensure accurate implementation of the payout.  The committee will listen to staff and faculty questions and concerns and act as the liaison with the HR office so staff and faculty don’t feel they are alone.

The committee:

            Trent

            Mark Bashour

            Lisa Cook

            Ken Wong

            Margaret Wong

It was suggested that HR could explain to this committee and the committee could then explain to the MCCC membership at our meetings.

  • Margaret Wong addressed the membership with regard to her candidacy for MCCC president.  Her position is that much-needed change in the statewide union is unlikely to occur because there is no acknowledgement by the current leadership of the need for change!  There is no way to change the status quo unless the current leadership is removed.  Margaret is setting up a campaign website and has Tom Parsons as her campaign manager.
