MCCC MEETING
October 13, 2005
Introductions: Jon Randall, adjunct faculty in Humanities, is the new DCE Grievance officer. Maureen Woolhouse and Marilyn Martin will share Day Grievance responsibilities.
UPPC Nominations: 4-5 tenured faculty are needed and 1 professional staff person. This committee reviews tenure files. Current nominations are Marilyn Kalal, Maura Stickles and Donna Rollo. Anyone interested, please contact Marilyn Martin.
Sabbatical Leave Committee needs 4 faculty and 1 professional staff person. Contact Susan LaPrade if interested.
Presidential Search Committee initial meeting will be held on Oct. 21 in Hebert Auditorium. There are 4 faculty and 2 professional staff of the search committee. The Board of Trustees decided who was to get on that committee. There are 15 voting members.
The All College Forum is the place to address any concerns about the search or the make up of the committee. This committee is very important to our own interests, so it is important to be aware of its activities.
Motion: participating in activities related to the Presidential Search should not be a violation of Work to Rule guidelines. So voted unanimously.
Work to Rule Committee: Has not met yet, so no reexamination of last year’s issues.
Once signed by the Gov., it goes to the Legislature; then, to Ways and Means to be checked. The House “engrosses” the bill three times (they vote it three times) and the Senate does the same. The Bill is not law until the Gov. signs within 10 days of this process. Once signed or overridden by the Legislature, the Bill is law and the contract is funded.
The time frame: “Soon” as per Joe LeBlanc, VP of the statewide MCCC and Negotiating Team Chair.
Open House participation/informational picketing?
Faculty Professional Staff Retreat
Mid Term Grades- discussion about whether to submit them or not;
Voted not to submit mid term grades (1 abstention)
Jon Randall will tell the DCE faculty not to submit either to support the full time faculty.
Grievance discussions:
4 individuals hired in ’00 not according to that contract but on a schedule from a previous contract. They were never given points. It appears that Sheila Sykes will settle this issue.
Margaret Wong is not the MTA Public Relations Committee member.
Question: do we want to change our governance now that the past president is gone? Do we want to visit other colleges in other states to examine other governance structures? Do we want a faculty senate?
Is there any interest in working on these issues from among the membership? George Fitch volunteered to be the spokesperson for the group, but the group needs members. Contact Marilyn Martin.
