ENG 102, English Composition and Literature IIEnglish 102 is the traditional second-semester in freshman English--a course that's been around since before indoor plumbing. Even the guy on the left probably took it once or twice at Bosworth U. The way I teach it, we read short stories, see plays (and read their scripts), and hear poetry performed. We also read poetry the "traditional" way--solo--allowing us to appreciate the "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings recollected in moments of tranquility." Plus, we have this electronic thing...
And, we write, write, write.

This is my blueprint for the course and it is a BIG document, so please be patient. It will take some time to load, especially if you're using a modem to connect to this page. This link will allow you to view, print, or save the course syllabus in Adobe "pdf" format. The syllabus contains all the course requirements and procedures, formats and checklists for student papers, and a list of correction symbols commonly used in proofreading. Updated as needed.

Joseph Campbell is one of my favorite authors. These quotes are taken from his book, The Power of Myth. If you like the quotes, get the book at Amazon.com., or at your favorite bookstore. You can use the quotes to "jump-start' your papers or you can just use them as little meditations.
Dylan Thomas was a great poet. Here are a few that aren't in your book. See also the "links" listed above.

The Force that Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower
Poetry of W. B. Yeats
As far as I am concerned, Yeats is the best poet of the 19th AND 20th centuries. Although you can find his poems on the links I've listed, I couldn't resist these ones that are not often included in freshman anthologies.
