Maura Tighe-Stickles, B.A., M.A. Professor Tighe-Stickles received her B.A. Degree from North Adams State College then went on to Anna Maria College where she earned her M.A. degree. Over the past years, Maura's experiences in higher education have been both challenging and rewarding. She believes that each semester represents an opportunity for growth and development for herself and especially for her students. Her philosophy of higher education is derived from the understanding that educators must be sensitive to the needs of diverse student populations. Maura believes that: "As we begin the 21st Century, psychology is characterized by the belief that everything psychological is simultaneously biological. Psychology today includes six core approaches: Biological, behavioral, cognitive, sociocultural, psychodynamic and humanistic." In all of the courses that Professor Tighe-Stickles facilitates, students are encouraged to view the world multidimensionally. In addition, the development of critical thinking strategies are emphasized for all students. Professor Tighe-Stickles teaches Introduction to Psychology (PSY 101), Counseling Methods (PSY 235), Abnormal Psychology (PSY 262), Lifespan Development (PSY 121), Chemical Dependency (PSY 273), and Introduction to Counseling (PSY 231).
