March 2009 V 1 I 6

SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH: Cell phones
have become a popular thing while driving. It is not a good idea. Cell phones
distract drivers, and like any distraction, that could mean that someone will
get hurt if not worse, killed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DID
YOU KNOW?
CRIME PREVENTION: is an
initiative or policy which reduces, avoids or eliminates victimization by crime
of violence. It includes government and non-government initiatives to reduce
fear of crime as well as lessen the impact of crime on victims.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW
SAFE ARE YOU? (5 Tips we easily forget)
·
Be aware of your surroundings
·
Avoid carrying large amounts of
cash
·
Avoid parking next to vans or
trucks with camper shells
·
Carry your purse close to you,
do not dangle it.
·
When returning to your car,
always check the front/back seat.
REMINDER: IF YOU NEED A KEY AND ARE ELIGIBLE, ALL KEY REQUESTS
NEED TO GO THROUGH THE Q.C.C. CHIEF OF POLICE. KEYS CAN BE REQUESTED BY
FOLLOWING THE ONLINE PROCEDURES ON THE INTRANET.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Never
forgotten: Binge Drinking Fatalities
Scott Krueger, 18, M.I.T.
first year student, went into a coma and eventually died after suffering from
serious alcohol poisoning at a frat party.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REMEMBER!!!!
Fireman Fred reminds people
to change your clock-change your battery. Thus ‘spring ahead’. The second
weekend in March, we turn the clocks ahead one hour. This is a good time to also
change the batteries in your smoke detectors and now your carbon monoxide
alarms.
This simple task will
greatly reduce the risk of detectors not working in your home. 66% of all house
fires had alarms that did not work because of the batteries.

THE ADVENTURES OF OFFICER BOB
Dopey Dave
was on trial for drug possession and said that he was searched without a
warrant. Prosecutor Peter said that Officer Bob did not need a warrant
because of a ‘bulge’ in Dopey Dave’s jacket could have been a gun.
“Nonsense”, said Dopey Dave, who happened to be wearing the same jacket. He
handed it over to Judge Jim so he could see it. Judge Jim then discovered a
packet of cocaine in the pocket.

PARKING APPEAL OF THE MONTH:
“I parked in that area only because I could not find a
parking place and did not want to be late for class. I think that warnings
should be issued first, instead of being charged, because it seems more logical
and fair.”
