“Reducing Crime and Promoting Safety”

SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH: When getting a phone call, if you
don’t recognize the number, you might consider not answering. If you do answer,
be cautious of scammers. Never give out personal information over the phone.
Even if the caller was legitimate, some calls especially cell phones can be
overheard.

WARMER WEATHER
MEANS OUTSIDE WORKING OUT
Safety for Runners, Walkers and Bicyclists
Lots of people are out there these days working to stay fit
and get in shape. It's healthy, good for you and an inexpensive way to maintain
a regular exercise regimen. While you're working out, you want to stay safe.
Here we offer you a few tips on doing just that!
Sometimes runners and walkers get lulled into a "zone"
where they are so focused on their exercise they lose track of what's going on
around them. This state can make runners and walkers more vulnerable to attacks.
Walk and run with confidence and purpose. If you get bored running without
music, practice identifying characteristics of strangers and memorizing license
tags to keep you from "zoning out

CAN YOU TELL – CAN YOU
SMELL- WHAT GAS IT IS
The
poisonous gas that kills nearly 300 people in their homes a year has no smell.
What’s more it has not taste or color. The gas is carbon monoxide or “CO” and is
truly a “senseless killer”.
Practice evacuating the building blindfolded. In
a real fire situation, the amount of smoke generated by a fire most likely will
make it difficult to see.
Practice staying low to the ground when escaping.
Feel all doors before opening them. If a door is hot, get out another
way.
Learn to stop, drop to the ground, roll if clothes catch fire.

THE ADVENTURES OF OFFICER BOB
Thieving Tom
attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home. He got more than he
bargained for. Officer Bob arrived at the scene and found Thieving Tom
curled up next to the motor home near spilled sewage. Officer Bob reported
that Thieving Tom had admitted trying to steal gasoline and plugged his hose
into the sewage tank by mistake.
PARKING APPEAL EXCUSE OF THE MONTH:
“The sign as you enter the campus at the stop sign only
suggests Faculty/Staff Parking-and DOES NOT stipulate Staff/Faculty Only. This
school has a very nice scam going to illegally give tickets for bogus offenses.”
