Q.C.C. POLICE
INFORMER MAY 2009
Vol. 1 Issue 8

SAFETY TIP OF THE MONTH: To help avoid getting sick,
washing hands is a good way. In order to know that you have soaped up enough
sing “happy birthday” to yourself.
AS THE SUMMER COMES, SO DO COOKOUTS Gas Grill
Safety:
·
Check grill hoses for cracks, brittleness, leaks
·
Move gas hoses far away from heat, dripping hot grease
·
Always keep propane tanks upright
·
Never store a spare propane tank under the grill or indoors
·
Never store or use flammable liquids, like gasoline near the grill
·
Never keep a filled container in a hot car or car trunk
·
Never bring a propane tank into the house
Most importantly make sure your spark ignitor is
consistently generating a spark to create a flame and burn the propane gas. If
the flame is not visible, the heavier-than-air propane gas may be escaping and
could explode

Every year thousands of cars are stolen. They are stolen
regardless of age or condition. Some get taken to sell to others, turned in for
parts or for a quick joy ride or crime spree. Sometimes it may just be to get
inside because of visible valuable items. Car thieves first look for easy access
(not locked, windows rolled down). Because of this the most important rule is to
keep your car locked, windows rolled up and valuables hidden.

SHOPLIFTING IS NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME: IT HAS CONSEQUENCES…..
Believe it or not, some people consider shoplifting to be their
profession. Some look at it as an art form and spend time getting better at it.
They make special equipment with hidden compartments so that they can stash
items. Some do it for the fun of it not just for any economic reason.
Shoplifting actually affects you and me. Regardless of who does
the stealing or what they take, the act of shoplifting has a negative effect on
everyone. Retail stores have to compensate for the losses they receive annually
because of thieves. This includes special security equipment and people. They
are compensated by raising the price on every item. So whenever you purchase
anything, you are paying a little extra to make up for the fact that people
steal millions of dollars in merchandise from store every year.

THE
ADVENTURES OF OFFICER BOB
Dopey Dan
walked into the police station and wanted to talk to Officer Bob. Officer
Bob asked him what he wanted. Dopey Dan then pulled out a packet of cocaine
and placed it on the counter. Dopey Dan then said, “This is substandard and
I demand that the person who sold it to me be arrested immediately.”
COOL A BURN
If someone gets burned, immediately place the wound in cool water for 10 to 15
minutes to ease the pain. Do not use butter
on a burn, as this could prolong the heat and further damage the skin. If burn
blisters or chars, see a doctor immediately.

PARKING EXCUSE OF THE MONTH:
“First, the violation description is not clear! Second, I
was not parked on school property! I was parked in a space that had no signs,
near wooded area. Third, this is getting ridiculous, Channel 4, 5, 7 are next!”

Q.C.C. Police stop vehicles that operate on campus when it
is necessary as part of our ‘care taking role’. It has more to do with public
safety than creating revenue. Unfortunately most of us learn best when money is
involved. This is not done to create revenue, it is done to save lives one stop
at a time. The lives that are saved could be a pedestrian, the driver as well as
any passengers.
