Goals

Classified Staff Development activities focus on two initiatives: improving morale and improving workers’ job related skills.

Throughout the year, we send a morning coffee cart to different work groups at the end of their busy cycle.  Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid and Advising will be recognized after the fall and spring enrollments are complete.  Print Shop and Maintenance are recognized after commencement and exams.  The Clerical Staff enjoys special recognition on National Secretaries’ Day.  Staff Development plans interesting luncheons with speakers or performances.

Classified Staff are also encouraged to attend off campus workshops that are job related, (i.e., Dealing with Difficult Customers, Anger in the Workplace, etc.)

A large number of computer skills training courses are offered through the Training and Development Programs for State and Local Government Employees.  Classified Staff are encouraged to attend these training sessions.

Tuition reimbursement is another benefit that enables Classified Staff to further their education on their own time.  Staff Development is the mechanism by which employees take advantage of this benefit.

Many of our staff members attend the Massachusetts Education Computing Conference each spring at one of the state's college or university facilities.  This three-day conference allows for socialization with peers from other colleges, and exposure to upcoming trends in the academic world.

If individual members find conferences in their area of expertise, they may approach the Staff Development Committee for funding to attend such a conference or workshop.

This sub-committee is currently inactive.
