1. What is on the final exam?

The final exam is a cumulative, departmental one containing about 30 multiple choice questions.  No notes, books, or calculators are allowed on the exam.  Students will be allowed 2 hours to complete the exam. 

2. Where and when do instructors pick up the final exam?

A few weeks before final exam period Instructors will receive an information sheet describing where and when to pick up the final exam and where to submit the final exam and course grades.  (Be sure to photocopy and hand out the final exam review packet at the end of the Quizzes and Tests section of this manual.)

3. What do students need to score in order to pass the final exam?

Students need to score a 73% or better on the final exam in order to be allowed to take Beginning Algebra.

4. What options are available for students who do not pass the final exam?

Students who score below a 73% on the final exam may be allowed to take the make up final exam at the end of the final exam period (exact date, time, and place TBA). If they do not pass on the second attempt, they may choose to re-take the placement test to try to place into Beginning Algebra.

5. What if students pass the final exam but receive an “F” for a semester grade?

Regardless of their semester grades, students who pass the final exam are eligible for Beginning Algebra. In this sense, passing the final exam is equivalent to placing into Beginning Algebra through the placement test. However, the semester grades they receive in Basic Math will be part of their official transcripts and will affect their cumulative grade point averages. For this reason, an Instructor might recommend that students re-take Basic Math even after passing the final exam.

6. What should students review for the final exam?

The final exam will cover the entire semester. Depending on which resources from this manual were used during the semester, students will have some or all of the following resources available to them:
