CAPS Objectives

The Career, Academic, and Personal Success Program will:

  • establish learning communities
  • create cohorts to move program participants as a group through the program
  • establish a collaborative network of staff and faculty
  • define learning outcomes and competencies
  • integrate study skills into courses
  • incorporate a course on Career Planning /Self-Assessment/Workforce Assessment which may culminate in the selection of a specific Program of Study for those who are undecided about their academic program options
  • provide a mini-orientation/workshop for program participants, which would incorporate such things as: introduction to the College and its services, self-advocacy skills, and registration into the Program
  • utilize Peer Tutors and Peer Mentors -- who have, themselves, been program participants
  • use computer technology
  • establish entry criteria by:
    • defining minimum skills levels in both math and English for entry into the Program
    • developing a referral process/mechanism to alternative educational opportunities for those who do not meet the minimum levels
    • requiring those who fall below the minimum criteria in math to complete a diagnostic test not taken on the computer
