What is the Education Compact?

The statewide Early Childhood Education Compact and Elementary Education Compact were created by the Board of Higher Education along with the Presidents of the Massachusetts Community Colleges, State Colleges, and University of Massachusetts campuses. The goals of the two compacts are to strengthen teacher education throughout the public higher education system, increase the diversity of the teacher workforce, and broaden career opportunities in teaching for community college students.

What's required for the Education Compact?

  • Complete an approved Associate degree program (at QCC these are Early Childhood Education-Transfer and General Studies -Elementary Education)
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (Bridgewater SC requires a higher GPA)
  • Apply for admission to a participating MA State College on a timely basis (see link to list below). Eligible students can use the Joint Admissions Intent To Enroll form for this application
  • Achieve a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (CLST) portion of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL)
