Health professions and Health Programs

QCC has a number of strong health programs, both certificates and associate degrees, which prepare individuals for employment in the health care field.

Some students are also interested in continuing towards Bachelor's degrees or graduate school training. Depending on the field and corresponding academic program, students may find various opportunities to continue.

Other fields require students to complete significant coursework or degrees in the area of life sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, etc.) before continuing into graduate programs. These fields include

  • dentistry

  • medicine

  • veterinary medicine

  • allied health: occupational therapy, physical therapy, exercise kinesiology, sports medicine

Comprehensive health profession information about these fields is provided by the New England Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.

To prepare for admission and eventual transfer into related undergraduate degrees, QCC students should consider a mix of general, Liberal Arts-type coursework such as

  • English  6 credits

  • Mathematics  3-6 credits

  • Humanities  6-9 credits

  • Lab Science  4-8 credits

  • Social Sciences  6-9 credits

The General Studies and Liberal Arts programs are two good choices to consider for those students who plan to complete a degree at QCC.

Graduate and professional schools in the health professions highly value science coursework, especially advanced sciences, completed at a Baccalaureate institution. As with general transfer planning, it is best to confirm coursework requirements and preferences with specific colleges of interest.
