Traditional Transfer Pathway

Traditional "transfer pathway"

  • Identify the college and choice of major (if transferring with less than 60 credits, you may be able to transfer as an "undeclared" student
  • At the college website, go the "Admissions" page, look for "transfer student information," read and follow instructions
  • Identify transfer admissions application deadline (different from freshman admissions deadline)
  • Identify transfer admissions requirements (usually a minimum number of completed College-level credits (12-24 or more) and a minimum GPA (varies from 2.0 to 3.0, or higher depending on number of credits completed).
  • Consult the "Transfer Power" tip-sheet for explanation of this.
  • Organize and prepare all required application materials, such as:

               application

               high school transcripts

               college transcripts

standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)

               essay, personal statement, or resume

               letters of recommendation, etc

               volunteer or community service experience

  • In this scenario, the college determines acceptance.
  • In this scenario, the college determines courses to accept in transfer.

Understand that this is a standard transfer application process. Meeting the college's transfer admissions prerequisites is required, but there is no guarantee of admission.
