The transfer application process is both easy and complicated. It's
complicated if you haven't spent time taking care of the "big" questions
such as "Why am I going to college?", "What are my career goals," and
"What do I want to study?" The process is easy once you have answers to
these questions.
If you need help with the "big" questions, go to the
Getting Started
page to learn more. If you've done the research and and are ready to
move on, start here. |

1. Be clear about knowing what major(s) you are interested in
studying. Need help? Go to
Career Search to learn more.
2. Identify the college(s) that you plan to apply to. Need help? Go
to the
College Search to learn more.
3. Find out whether QCC has any current transfer agreements such as
Joint Admissions (state colleges and UMass campuses) or other
school-specific articulation agreements. Go to
Transfer Pathways,
Joint
Admissions and
Articulation Agreements to learn more.
4. Visit college websites and look under "Academics" to confirm that
they offer the major you are interested in.
5. Then look under
"Admissions" or "Undergraduate Admissions" (if appropriate). Find information related to "transfer admissions" or "transfer
students." Read everything!
6. Look for application deadlines (and financial aid deadlines)
first--this will immediately tell you whether there is time to apply,
whether you need to hurry, or whether the deadline for the next
semester has passed. You can consider application for the following semester.
7. If possible, make contact with a transfer admissions counselor and
ask for an "unofficial evaluation of transfer credit." You can make an
appointment to do this, or send grades through the mail/email. You can
also look for online
course equivalencies, some of which are
available at this site.
8. Read and follow application instructions. These may include some
or all of the following:
--filling out an application ("Intent To Enroll" form for Joint
Admissions)
--sending QCC transcripts and high school transcripts
--submitting a personal statement or essay
--obtaining letters of recommendation from instructors
9. Once you decide which schools to apply to, begin to fill out
financial aid forms too. Some schools only require the FAFSA, others
also require the CSS Profile, and other schools have their own forms
as well.
10. Make sure to send everything in by the deadline. If you don't
receive some kind of notice within 2 weeks, call the school admissions
office to make sure they have received everything.
