Transfer Application Steps

Return to Home Page

The transfer application process is sometimes easy, and sometimes complicated.

It's complicated if you haven't spent time taking care of the "big" questions such as "Why am I going to college?", "What are my career goals," and "What do I want to study?" The process is easy once you have answers to these questions.

If you need help with the "big" questions, go to the Getting Started page to learn more. If you've done the research and and are ready to move on, start here.

TEN TRANSFER STEPS

1.     Be clear about the major(s) you plan to study.

Need help? Go to Career Search to learn more.

2.     Locate the college(s) where you plan to apply.

Need help? Go to the College Search to learn more.

3.     Transferring with or without completing the Associate degree?

Go to Transfer Pathways to learn about the differences.

if you are transferring without completing an associate degree, then you are considered a "traditional transfer student."

If you transferring after completing an associate degree and graduating from QCC, you can take advantage of these transfer agreements:

MassTransfer (for students enrolling in associate degree programs starting Fall 2009)

Joint Admissions (for students enrolled in associate degree programs prior to Fall 2009)

       Articulation Agreements

4.     Visit college websites Look under "Academics" to confirm that they offer the major you are interested in.

5.     Look under "Admissions" or "Undergraduate Admissions" Read information related to "transfer students." Read everything!

6.     Look for application deadlines (and financial aid deadlines). This will tell you whether there is time to apply, whether you need to hurry, or whether the deadline for the next semester has passed. You can consider application for the following semester.

7.     Make contact with a transfer admissions counselor. Ask for an "unofficial evaluation of transfer credit." You can make an appointment to do this, or send grades through the mail/email. Also look for online course equivalencies, some of which are available at this site.

8.     Read and follow the application instructions.

These will include:

► Application

("MTA" for MassTransfer or "Intent To Enroll" form for Joint Admissions)

QCC transcripts

May also include:

► High school transcripts

► Standardized test scores

► Personal statement or essay

Letters of recommendation from instructors

Make sure to send everything in.

9.     Apply for financial aid! Some schools only require the FAFSA, others also require the CSS Profile, and other schools have their own financial aid forms.

10.   Follow up with the admissions office at the four-year college.  If you don't receive some kind of notice within 2 weeks, call the school admissions office to make sure they have received everything.
